These are exciting times for Fayetteville's celebrated regional theater TheatreSquared: On March 7, the Fayetteville City Council, at the behest of Mayor Lioneld Jordan, voted to invest $3.1 million from the city's general reserve fund toward the company's ambitious new home at the southeast corner of West Avenue and Spring St. And, today, T2 officially announced the six scintillating shows of its 12th season, which includes two recent Tony Award winners.
Aug. 23-Sept. 17 — “Fun Home”: Book and Lyrics by Lisa Kron; music by Jeanine Tesori. When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her new life.
Oct. 11-Nov. 5 — “The Champion”: By Amy Evans. Inspired by untold, true events in the life of R&B legend Nina Simone.
Nov. 29-Dec. 31 — “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play”: Adapted by Joe Landry. Performed as a 1940s live radio broadcast in front of a studio audience.
Jan. 24-Feb. 18, 2018 — “The Humans”: By Stephan Karam. After a sleepless night, Mr. Blake brings his family from Pennsylvania to his daughter’s new apartment to celebrate Thanksgiving. As darkness falls outside the ramshackle pre-war duplex, mysterious things start to go bump int he night, secrets are revealed, and family tensions reach a boiling point.
March 14-April 8, 2018 — “Vietgone”: By Qui Nguyen. It’s the classic boy meets girl — except this boy and girl are refugees from the Vietnam War newly settled in a relocation camp in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.
April 25-May 20, 2018 — “The Hound of the Baskervilles”: Adapted by Steven Canny and John Nicholson. When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on the moors with a look of terror still etched on his face, the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death and investigate an ancient curse.
