ROGERS -- One person died and two were injured Sunday when a vehicle struck two pedestrians in a Wal-Mart parking lot, according to Fire Chief Tom Jenkins.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Both pedestrians were taken to medical facilities. One was taken by helicopter. Both were in serious condition, Jenkins said.
The incident occurred at 3:55 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 4208 Pleasant Crossing Blvd.
The vehicle also struck "a few inanimate objects," including at least one other vehicle, before coming to rest at a column outside the store, Jenkins said. Firefighters needed to use hydraulic equipment to extricate the driver.
Jenkins was not able to provide additional details, including identities of the people involved. Keith Foster, the Police Department's public information officer, had not received detailed information on the incident as of late Sunday. Foster also did not have an update on the condition of the pedestrians.
