Herb leads Travs past Naturals, 7-3

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Kyle Waldrop homered and had three hits, driving in four, and Tyler Herb allowed just one run over seven innings as the Arkansas Travelers beat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 7-3 on Thursday.

Herb (2-2) allowed seven hits while striking out seven to pick up the win.

Up 2-0 in the second, Arkansas extended its lead when Waldrop hit a two-run single.

The Travelers later added a run in the third and two in the fourth. In the third, Gianfranco Wawoe hit an RBI single, while Waldrop hit a solo home run in the fourth.

Corey Ray (3-3) went three innings, allowing five runs and eight hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out two and walked three.

For the Naturals, Ruben Sosa tripled, doubled and singled, scoring two runs.

Despite the loss, NW Arkansas is 7-1 against Arkansas this season.

SPRINGFIELD 5, TULSA 4 (10) Matt Beaty hit a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Tulsa Drillers to a 5-4 win over the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday. Layne Somsen got Anthony Garcia to ground out with a runner on first to end the game for his first save of the season. The Cardinals tied the game 4-4 in the eighth when Garcia scored on a wild pitch. Tulsa starter Scott Barlow went six innings, allowing three runs and two hits. He also struck out five and walked three. Yaisel Sierra (3-0) got the win in relief while Pedro Echemendia (1-1) took the loss in the Texas League game. Edwin Rios homered, doubled and singled in the win. Michael Ahmed homered and singled twice, driving in two runs. Garcia homered and doubled, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple for the Cardinals.

FRISCO 6, MIDLAND 5 Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubled and singled twice, driving in a run and also scoring one as the Frisco RoughRiders topped the Midland RockHounds 6-5 on Thursday. Juremi Profar doubled and singled twice with two runs for Frisco. Shane McCain got Max Schrock to ground out with a runner on first to end the game for his first save of the season. Trailing 4-3, the RoughRiders took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth inning. Profar hit an RBI double en route to the onerun lead. The RoughRiders tacked on another run in the seventh when Kiner-Falefa scored on an error. Midland saw its comeback attempt come up short after Yairo Munoz hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Brett Vertigan in the ninth inning to cut the Frisco lead to 6-5. Starter Collin Wiles (4-1) got the win while Brandon Mann (2-3) took the loss in relief in the Texas League game.
