ROGERS -- Each time Jadyn Loudermilk, Colby Ried and Devin Dougherty stepped on the track Thursday afternoon, a Whitey Smith Relays Carnival record was about to fall.

The Bentonville High sprinters teamed up to break three meet marks -- including two in events that are normally not run in Arkansas track meets -- and helped the Tigers also claim the team title during the seventh annual event at Whitey Smith Stadium.

"It feels great," Loudermilk said. "We train so hard every day, and we push each other so much because we are so close. I feel the biggest thing for us is our teamwork, and this senior group is one of the best I've been a part of.

"The younger guys really take after us, and I think there are more records to be broken when we're gone."

The trio started the meet with the 4x200-meter relay, which isn't typically run during regular meets in the state any more, and turned in a time of 1 minute, 29.17 seconds, breaking the previous record of 1:30.01 set by Bentonville 4 years ago. Then came the 4x100 relay, and the same runners finished in 42.64, which eclipsed the previous mark of 42.89 also set by Bentonville 4 years ago.

The third mark they set came in the sprint medley relay, where Loudermilk and Ried ran 200 meters and Dougherty ran a 400. They were joined by Zerai Belai, who ran the 800 portion of the race, and they finished in 3:32.82 -- almost 8 seconds faster than the time ran by Springdale Har-Ber last year.

"You just have to be mentally focused when you come out here," Loudermilk said. "There are a lot of distractions that happen at track meets -- a lot of people, a lot of competition. Our coaches talked to us about it, and we looked at all the rules to make sure we knew everything about the races.

"We just came out and executed. The sun was out when we first started, and once you get warmed up you have to keep it going."

Bentonville finished with two more meet records. The distance medley team of Daniel Graham, Dylan Smith, Colton Simmons and Coleman Wilson finished their event in 10:53.99, breaking the previous mark of 10:59.13 set by Rogers High in 2015, and the team of Bryant Parlin, Hayden Wiatrek and Angel Guerrero threw the discus for a combined total of 417 feet, 5 inches, breaking the previous relay mark of 415-8 by Fort Smith Southside in 2012.

That helped the Tigers win the team title with 113.5 points, while Springdale Har-Ber was a distant second with 77.5 points.

"It's a nontraditional meet, and the records are nice," Bentonville coach Mike Power said. "We also set two school records in events we hardly run, but we also had a lot of people perform in different events -- some they weren't used to. We had some that are new to track in Bentonville, and they had an opportunity to race in relay settings, which is new to a lot of them."

On the girls side, the race for the team title was a tighter one, with Bentonville edging Rogers High by a 121-104 margin.

The Lady Tigers set two meet records -- the team of Trinity Walker, Sydney Suggs, Lainey Quandt and Tori Willis in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:38.49, breaking the previous mark of 12:57.84 that Walker, Quandt and Willis set last year, and the high jump relay, where the trio of Lexi Matlock, Sydney Billington and Sterling Thomas all cleared 5 feet, and their combined 15 feet was an inch higher than the relay mark set by Southside in 2013.

Rogers also set records in the meet as the 4x1,600 relay team of Emily Efurd, Olivia Breazeale, Anna Jeffcoat and Ali Nachtigal had a time of 22:07.75, breaking the previous mark of 22:23.95 set by Bentonville last year. The Lady Mounties capped the meet with their 4x400 team of Grace Risenhoover, Skylurr Patrick, Ashlyne Silcott and Alexa Wright turning in a time of 4:03.44, breaking the mark of 4:08.03 set by Bentonville in 2011.

Meanwhile, Fayetteville senior Jasmine Franklin broke meet records in the shot put (41-5; previous mark 37-9.5 by Van Buren's Maria Santillana in 2014) and the discus (136-9; previous mark 131-6 by Springdale Ryann Goodsell in 2014). In the pole vault, Southside's Lauren Sutherland and Har-Ber's Emily Roberts both cleared 11-6 to tie the mark Bentonville's Isabel Neal in 2015 and matched last year.
