SPRINGDALE -- Tylor Perry had to put a negative play out of his mind quickly.
Springdale 18 13 12 13 -- 56
Har-Ber 13 16 14 15 -- 58
Springdale (13-9, 4-5): Boyd 12, Donahoo 11, Mason 7, Jibke 6, Coulter 5, Scales 5, Johnson 4, Aquino 3, Eckwood 3.
Har-Ber (18-5, 7-2): Perry 19, A. Garrett 9, T. Garrett 8, Bishop 6, Peck 5, Ezell 5, Buchanan 4, Ragsdale 2.
The Springdale Har-Ber junior guard had a late turnover that allowed Springdale High to take a narrow lead with under 20 seconds left in Wednesday's game in Wildcat Arena.
Instead of dwelling on that error, Perry found a way to lead his team back, stealing an in-bounds pass and converting a layup with 4.1 seconds left to tie the game at 56-56. He was fouled on the play and hit the free throw to give Har-Ber a 57-56 lead in what ultimately was a 58-56 win in 7A-West action.
"I just knew that on that play before, I had to just erase that from my mind," Perry said. "Coach Bowlin was telling us in the huddle that we have to step up and that's what I had to do right there. I made a bad play that put us in a bad position and I had to make up for it."
Har-Ber (18-5, 7-2 7A-West) trailed for most of the game and was down 55-53 with 19 seconds left when Springdale's Joe Jibke scored on a putback. The Bulldogs (13-9, 4-5) got the ball right back on a turnover, but could not get the ball inbounded and turned it over.
After Har-Ber's Nick Buchanan hit a free throw to make it a one-point game, the Bulldog hit a free throw to extend the lead back to two with 17.0 left. Springdale got another break when Har-Ber's Tyler Garrett was called for a charging foul on a drive with 5.8 left, but Perry stepped in to steal the in-bounds pass and hit the clutch shot and free throw for the win.
Springdale used a balanced attack to grab an early lead and held the advantage as Jujuan Boyd and Marquis Donahoo each scored in double figures, and Vincent Mason gave the Bulldogs a big game off the bench. Boyd had 12 points and Donahoo added 11.
Perry scored a game-high 19, and the Wildcats got a pair of big 3-pointers from Cole Bishop.
"My coaches and teammates told me to let that play go and stay focused, we just got to move on to the next one," Perry said. "We had to do that to win the game, so I just moved on."
Perry's late-game heroics weren't the first time he's delivered late against Har-Ber's crosstown rival. As a freshman, Perry hit a game-winning free throw for a Wildcats win.
"This is twice now," Perry said. "It feels good to beat any team like that. Springdale is a very good team and they have those young guards. It's going to be their league one day. But this felt really good."
Springdale High 42, Springdale Har-Ber 35
Springdale 10 3 14 15 -- 42
Har-Ber 2 8 7 18 -- 35
Springdale (15-7, 6-3): Davis 18, Vogel 10, Sysavanh 6, Minchew 4, James 3, Conley 1.
Har-Ber (12-11, 4-5): Mains 16, Smith 12, Nelson 4, Collins 2, Wood 1.
The Lady Bulldogs used a smothering defense to snap Har-Ber's four-game win streak.
Springdale (15-7, 6-3) allowed just 10 first-half points to earn a big conference road win.
Marquesha Davis scored a game-high 18 for the Lady Bulldogs, but it was two huge 3-pointers from Sarah Vogel that help Springdale maintain its lead when Har-Ber pulled close late.
Vogel, who scored 10 points, drained a 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter to extend Springdale's lead to 27-17, then after Har-Ber closed to within 27-21, she nailed another from deep for a 30-21 lead and the Lady Bulldogs held on the rest of the way.
"I've been saying all year we're a team," Lady Bulldogs coach Heather Hunsucker said. "We have a lot of parts and a lot of pieces. The shot at the end of the third was big. It gave us momentum going into the fourth quarter and anytime you can get momentum going into the last quarter, it's so vital."
Krislyn Smith helped Har-Ber stay close in the fourth quarter, scoring six straight points to bring the Lady Wildcats within 30-25, but Springdale hit key free throws down the stretch to close it out.
Maci Mains led Har-Ber (12-11, 4-5) with 16 points and Smith finished with 12.
"I was proud of our team and just think we're getting back to Springdale basketball," Lady Bulldogs coach Heather Hunsucker said. "I think our best basketball is ahead of us."
