FAYETTEVILLE -- A Rogers man was sentenced to federal prison Friday for helping distribute methamphetamine.

Manuel Ortiz Jr., 37, was sentenced to 5 years and three months followed by three years of supervised release and ordered to pay a $35,000 fine on one count of aiding and abetting in the distribution of meth.

A Drug Enforcement Administration informant called Ortiz in March 2016 and asked him about buying an ounce of met. Ortiz told the caller to go to a grocery store and purchase the meth.

Ortiz was indicted by a federal grand jury in April and entered a guilty plea in August.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim Harris prosecuted the case.
